'Should You Start a Business?' Part I: The Stories That Are Holding You Back

November 5, 2019

If you're considering if business ownership is right for you, and/or are in the early stages of starting a business, it's normal to feel uncertain, doubtful, and wondering if you're truly meant for this type of work. We're often taught that 'success' is working your way up the corporate ladder in a secure job and minimizing the risk of failure in the process. While there is nothing wrong with this, there is something wrong if you're working towards a definition of success that is not in alignment with who you are and what you truly want.

I remember being frustrated and stuck in my corporate role, applying and interviewing for other jobs that were perfect on paper, and trying to force myself to be excited about these opportunities. I thought there was something wrong with me! Why couldn't I just be happy with what I had? Everyone else seemed to be fine with the corporate model of working. I would tell myself 'I would love to run a business full-time one day but I can't now', because I wasn't ready yet, needed more experience, more security, and the list went on. I was caught up in my stories of limitation, and it wasn't until I finally started to question these perceptions that I was able to take action and go 'all in' on my business dream.

In this video blog, I'm sharing the first live session facilitated as part of the 'Should You Start a Business?' series, where I reveal the signs to pay attention to that indicate if you're meant to start a business, and bust through the stories that are holding you back from deciding if a business is right for you.

Parts II and III of this series will be shared in the upcoming weeks. Part II will cover the 'practical' tips and tools to plan for your business and what to consider if you want to transition to full-time, and Part III will talk about how to shift your thinking and habits to becoming the 'CEO' of your business. If you'd like to participate in the live sessions, please join my FB group.
